Android platform stats: Oreo bites a fifth of all active Android devices

The figures, as always, are based on active devices interacting with Google Play over the period of a week. (“Data collected during a 7-day period ending on September 28, 2018. Any versions with less than 0.1% distribution are not shown”).

The main takeaway is that – while the new version 9 of Android “Pie” has yet to trouble the charts, even at 0.1% – Oreo continues to grow. Version 8 of Android (both 8.0 and 8.1) now accounts for a fifth of all active Android devices 19.2%).

It’s quite a jump for v8.0, increasing its share 17.5% in one month (up from 11.4% to 13.4%) and for 8.1, increasing its share 81% in one month (up from 3.2% to 5.8%). Big increases on a small base, of course. Stats, stats, stats…

As Oreo waxes, KitKat and Lollipop wane accordingly, and unsurprisingly. So, to the figures.
