We’re still recovering from the monster that is CES but that means Mobile World Congress (MWC) is fast approaching so here’s what smartphones and tablet to expect at the 2016 show held in Barcelona from Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG and Huawei.
There’s already a lot to say about what smartphones might arrive at MWC thanks to the rumour mill which is the internet. We’ve rounded up all the news we can find regarding which smartphones will be launched by the big name companies – there’s a lot to get excited about.

What to expect at MWC 2016: Samsung
It’s pretty clear that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S7 range of smartphones at MWC 2016. It has announced an Unpacked 2016 event for 21 February and mountains of information has been leaked recently.
For a while it was unclear which models we would get. At one point there was a possibility of four: the Galaxy S7, S7 edge, S7 edge+ and the S7 Plus. However, it now looks like we’ll be getting the first two from that list.
You can read more about the Galaxy S7 rumours via the link below but to give you a taste Samsung is expected to bring back waterproofing, the Micro-SD card slot, bigger batteries and a pressure sensitive screen to rival Force Touch on the iPhone 6S.

What to expect at MWC 2016: LG
We don’t even need to ponder what LG will launch at MWC 2016 on the same day as Samsung’s Unpacked event because it has already branded it as ‘LG G5 Day’. It will be one of two flagship phones for 2016 but we may see more devices in Barcelona with the invite stating ‘come and meet new friends on the playground’.
Other than the name of the phone, everything else is down to rumours and there are a lot floating around. Much has been about the design, which will supposedly be much different to the LG G4 and LG G3. A metal body will house a 5.6in 4K screen, dual cameras and a fingerprint scanner.
There’s talk of LG moving the volume keys back to the side and an intriguing ‘accessory slot’ which may be a nifty way of removing the battery despite the metal body.

What to expect at MWC 2016: Huawei
There was the odd rumour that Huawei might launch a new flagship phone at CES 2016. Well that didn’t happen so it’s possible the Huawei P9 will launch at MWC which would make more sense. March is a rumoured month for arrival which would just after the show but that could be when it goes on sale.
Rumours on the P9 seem less concrete than the Galaxy S7 and LG G5 with some big claims such as 6GB of RAM. Like the S7, there may be up to four different models including the P9 Max which might have a huge 6.8in screen.
Dual-cameras, a Quad HD resolution and a Kirin 950 processor are all possible for the regular model.
What to expect at MWC 2016: HTC
The Taiwanese firm often has fairly quiet shows at MWC and IFA, at least compared to rivals. Fans are waiting for the HTC One M10 to arrive but it won’t be on show in Barcelona this year if rumours are correct.
Instead, it will be announced at a separate event in March and then go on sale in April.
Leaks suggest a similar design to the HTC One A9 with a front mounted fingerprint scanner. There’s also a touted 23- or 27Mp camera, a 5.1in Quad HD screen and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor.
What to expect at MWC 2016: Sony
New products are almost a certainty when it comes to Sony at MWC. In 2016 it looks unlikely that we’ll see a new flagship phone (the Xperia Z6) but that doesn’t mean there won’t be anything.
While some mid-range or budget smartphones are a possibility, we’re more excited by the prospect of a new Xperia Tablet. Sony has launched one at consecutive MWCs for a number of years.
There are next to no rumours but we think it’s likely that Sony will launch theXperia Z5 Tablet – saving the Z6 generation for the phone later in the year. It could be a similar 10in device to the Z4 Tablet with a keyboard dock and while that would be fine we’d also like to see a new smaller Compact model. A choice between sizes would be even better but it’s not something Sony has done before.

What to expect at MWC 2016: Lenovo
Not well known for its phones in the UK, Lenovo has confirmed that we’ll be seeing a ‘gorgeous new device’ at MWC 2016. The images posted on Twitter match up to the Lenovo Lemon 3 which was recently launched in China and rivals the Xiaomi Redmi 3.
The smartphone has a 5in Full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a 13Mp rear camera. As per a second tweet, Lenovo also says the phone features Dolby Atmos sound.
