Xiaomi Mi A1 gets dual 4G VoLTE support with Android 9 Pie update

Xiaomi has recently upgraded some of its devices including the Mi A2 to Android 9 Pie. The Chinese smartphone maker has also confirmed to upgrade the Poco F1 to Pie very soon. Meanwhile, some Mi A1 users report that they are receiving the Android 9 Pie update, which was available in beta all this while. To recall, the Mi A2 was launched with Android 7.1.2 Nougat back in 2017.

Soon after, the Google Android One programme powered Mi A1 was upgraded to Android 8.1 Oreo. The smartphone, as users are reporting, has now been upgraded to Android 9 Pie. Mi A1 users have started posting screenshots of the changelog of the Android 9 Pie update and it shows that the software brings the support for FM radio to the smartphone. Additionally, the update also brings a bunch of Android 9 Pie features to the Mi A1.

Some of the Pie features that have come to the Mi A1 with the new update including Adaptive Battery, Adaptive Brightness, gestures based navigation, among other things. Besides these features, the Android 9 Pie update also brings dual 4G VoLTE support to the Mi A1, which wasn’t available to the users of the phone all this while.

It is important to note that Xiaomi is yet to officially announce the Android 9 Pie roll out for the Mi A1. The information about the software rollout comes from some of the users of the Mi A1 who have posted screenshots of the changelog on MIUI Forum, which reveals that the update comes with a build number: PKQ1.180917.001 (V10.0.2.0.PDHMIFK).

The Android Pie update for the Mi A1 is reportedly over 1.7GB in size and some reports claim that it is currently rolling out to only a few markets including Bangladesh. As of now, India doesn’t seem to be in the list of countries getting the update. However, now that some of the Mi A1 users globally are getting the Pie update, we expect the same to happen to the users in India as well. To check if your phone has got the update or not, head to the Setting tab, and then to the Software update section and check if there are any updates available for you to install.
